Reviews for Wonjo Namsan Wang Tonkatsu
Review highlights
Based on 2,770 reviewsWonjo Namsan Wang Tonkatsu is widely recognized as a historic and authentic tonkatsu restaurant in Seoul, often praised for its originator status since 1977. Customers appreciate the generous portion sizes, with a distinctive wider and thinner pork cutlet compared to typical offerings. The inclusion of cream soup as part of the meal is frequently mentioned, adding to the value. While the flavors generally receive positive remarks, some diners note that side dishes like the coleslaw with tropical dressing may not appeal to everyone. The restaurant’s longstanding reputation and convenient Jung District location contribute to its popularity among both locals and tourists seeking classic Korean tonkatsu experiences.
Meal budget per person (without drinks) Category 1 (under 60000 KRW, 50 USD) There are many restaurants for Pork Cutlets along the streets of Namsan but this restaurant is known as the originator of it. It has been since 1977 and became more famous through the introduction from many variety shows and broadcast programs. It is comparable to Gana Pork Cutlet in Gangnam. Gana is more beloved by taxi drivers whereas Namsan is beloved by many tourists. Personally, I prefer Gana, but it is addictive that makes me visit Namsan once or twice a year. Prices seem not moderate but the quantity is large. Valet parking is available for comfortable visit.
Everything was good but I didn't care to much for the slaw with tropical tasting dressing. I would definitely come back though!
There are many restaurants in NamSan that sells Donkatsu (pork cutlet). Expect to see lots of people standing outside of each joints trying to get customers. Wang Donkatsu just means they flattened the meat out wider than normal donkatsu (so it is wider but thinner). Cream soup comes out as part of your order and you can ask them to put your sauce on the side. Otherwise, they will just pour sauce over your cutlet. The main entrance has stairs but you can also use elevator if you go through their garage. Not a bad place if you want to try old korean style donkatsu.
